Additional notes
This thunderstorm over southeast Indiana was not severe, but produced
hundreds of cloud-to-ground lightning strikes within just a few minutes. Note that the
National Weather Service will only issue a warning for a thunderstorm if
it is producing strong winds, hail, or a tornado - a warning will not be
issued for lightning alone. However, just because the NWS has not issued a warning does
not mean that a thunderstorm should not be taken seriously.
Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is extremely dangerous.

Safety Note: Lightning
is extremely dangerous - if you hear thunder, you are close enough to a
thunderstorm to be struck. Get to a safe shelter (fully enclosed)
or a vehicle immediately. It is never safe to be out in the open
during a thunderstorm. If you absolutely cannot get to a shelter,
you should protect yourself by avoiding tall objects, anything metal,
and crouch on the ground with only your feet touching the surface.
Keep in mind these actions should only be a last resort since they will
not keep you safe. This is why it's very important to have a
quick means to safety any time you are outdoors when thunderstorms are
forecast.
