NWS Wilmington Hydrologic Products and Their Use

• Flash Flood or Flood Watch -

Flash flooding or flooding is possible within the designated watch area - there may or may not be flooding currently occurring.

• Flash Flood Warning -

Flash flooding or flooding has been reported or is imminent -Take necessary precautions immediately!

• Flood Warning For Urban Areas and/or Small Streams -

Flooding of small streams, streets, and low lying areas is occurring or is likely to occur -Be alert to flooded roadways!

• Flash Flood or Flood Statement -

Follow-up information on a Flash Flood or Flood Watch or Warning

or

To heighten awareness of minor flooding of low lying areas (viaducts or underpasses that typically flood with most thunderstorm rains)

• River Flood Warning -

A Specific point along a river (as well as many surrounded areas) is expected to flood or are already in flood. The River Flood Warning will provide as detailed information as possible regarding what areas flood at a given river stage.
