| Becoming a Skywarn® Spotter |
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio conducts numerous Skywarn® weather spotter training classes each spring. The classes are run from late January through early May each year. We try to hold one class in as many counties as possible.
To become a Skywarn® spotter, you must attend one of these training sessions. You are encouraged to pre-register through the hosting agency. You will be enrolled in the Skywarn® program at the training class. You will be issued a spotter number, and given specific information for reporting severe weather to the National Weather Service.
Once you have become a Skywarn® spotter, it is recommended to attend a training class at least every 2 to 3 years to retain your spotter status.
Training dates and locations are posted on our web page. The spring schedule is normally developed during the winter months. Check our spotter training schedule to find the class nearest to you.
Thank you for your interest in the Skywarn® program. I hope to see you at one of our training sessions.
