DETERMINED THAT AN EF-0 TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN BRIEFLY JUST WEST OF 
DAMASCUS IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY MD.

AFTER INITIALLY TOUCHING DOWN IN A WOODED AREA JUST NORTH OF 
KINGSTEAD AND KINGS VALLEY ROADS...THE TORNADO TRACKED 
NORTH...UPROOTING OR TOPPING OFF NEARLY TWO DOZEN TREES IN A WOODED 
AREA ALONG WESTERN SECTIONS OF KINGS VALLEY DRIVE BETWEEN KINGSTEAD 
AND MOUNTAIN VIEW RD. THE TORNADO PRODUCED ROOFING DAMAGE TO A BARN 
IN THE 11000 BLOCK OF MOUNTAIN VIEW RD. THE TORNADO LIFTED SHORTLY 
AFTER CROSSING MOUNTAIN VIEW RD JUST WEST OF KINGS VALLEY RD. AT 
TIMES...A ROPE-LIKE FUNNEL CLOUD WAS OBSERVED.

RADAR DATA AND VIDEO EVIDENCE...THE TEAM DETERMINED THAT AN EF-0 
TORNADO BRIEFLY TOUCHED DOWN BETWEEN THE 14000 TO 15000 BLOCKS OF 
MOUNT NEBO ROAD. DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED TO ABOUT A DOZEN TREES AND A 
STREET SIGN.

A VIDEO RECORDING MADE AT THE TIME FROM AN OFFICE BUILDING IN 
NORTHERN VIRGINIA NEAR DULLES TOWN CENTER APPROX 4 MILES SSE FROM 
WHERE THE DAMAGE OCCURRED SHOWED DEVELOPMENT OF A FUNNEL CLOUD 
LOWERING TO THE SURFACE NEAR WHERE THE DAMAGE WAS FOUND.

NOTE THIS TORNADO IS LISTED AS 4 NNW OF COUNTRYSIDE VA IN THE LOCAL 
STORM REPORT.

3800 BLOCK OF TWIN ARCH RD...JUST WEST OF THE INTERSECTION OF OLD 
FREDERICK RD AND TWIN ARCH RD...AND CONTINUED NORTH...CROSSING THE 
4000 BLOCK OF TWIN ARCH ROAD NEAR ROBIN WAY BEFORE DISSIPATING. THE 
TORNADO PRODUCED SPORADIC DAMAGE CONFINED TO ABOUT TWO DOZEN TREES 
UPROOTED OR LARGE    LIMBS SNAPPED. NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE WAS 
OBSERVED.

INITIAL TORNADO DAMAGE OCCURRED TO TREES ALONG WEST WATERSVILLE RD 
JUST NORTH OF OLD FREDERICK RD. THE DAMAGE TRACK CONTINUED NORTHEAST 
ALONG A HEAVILY WOODED AREA OF WEST WATERSVILLE RD WHERE A SWATH OF 
LARGE HARDWOOD TREES WERE EITHER SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. SOME TREES 
FELL ON POWER LINES. AN AREA OF INTENSE DAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH EF-1 
LEVEL WINDS WAS NOTED IN THE 500 BLOCK OF WEST WATERSVILLE RD WHERE 
30 TO 40 LARGE HARDWOOD TREES UP TO 2 FEET IN DIAMETER WERE UPROOTED 
OR SNAPPED 20 FEET UP. THE TORNADO BRIEFLY CROSSED INTO CARROLL 
COUNTY JUST NORTH OF WATERSVILLE BEFORE LIFTING NEAR THE 
INTERSECTION OF WATERSVILLE ROAD AND FLAG MARSH ROAD. NO STRUCTURAL 
DAMAGE WAS NOTED.

TORNADO OCCURRED.

INITIAL TORNADO TOUCHDOWN WAS IN A WOODED AREA AT THE SOUTH END OF 
PLEASANT VIEW LANE OFF WOODFIELD RD...RT 124. THE TORNADO TRACKED 
NORTHEAST PRODUCING MAINLY TREE DAMAGE ALONG PLEASANT VIEW LANE... 
WHERE SOME SHINGLES WERE BLOWN OFF HOUSE ROOFS AND TREES FELL ONTO 
SEVERAL HOMES AND POWER LINES. A HOUSE IN THE 23700 BLOCK OF 
WOODFIELD RD HAD MINOR DAMAGE TO ITS EAVES ON THE NORTHEAST-FACING 
SIDE. AFTER THE TORNADO CROSSED WOODFIELD RD...IT CAUSED TREE DAMAGE 
AND  MINOR STRUCTURE DAMAGE TO ONE HOME ALONG ECHO CREEK COURT. THE 
TORNADO TOPPED SEVERAL TREES IN A WOODED AREA SHORTLY AFTER IT 
CROSSED ECHO CREEK...BEFORE DISSIPATING.

DETERMINED THAT AN EF-1 TORNADO OCCURRED.

THE INITIAL TORNADO TOUCHDOWN WAS IN THE 2600 BLOCK OF BIRD VIEW 
ROAD WHERE IT SNAPPED AND UPROOTED SEVERAL TREES. THE TORNADO 
TRACKED EAST-NORTHEAST...CAUSING INTERMITTENT DAMAGE TO TREES. THE 
MOST CONCENTRATED DAMAGE OF EF-1 MAGNITUDE WAS FOCUSED ALONG AND 
NORTH OF GREEN MILL ROAD..WHERE NUMEROUS HARDWOOD TREES WERE 
UPROOTED AND SNAPPED...WITH SOME TREE TRUNK DIAMETERS IN EXCESS OF 2 
FEET. HERE ONE TREE FELL ONTO A HOUSE...LEAVING THAT RESIDENCE 
UNINHABITABLE.

THE TORNADO TRACKED ACROSS MD STATE RT 140...AFTER PASSING NEAR THE 
FINKSBURG LIBRARY...PRODUCING SCATTERED TREE DAMAGE. THE DAMAGE 
DIMINISHED SHORTLY AFTER CROSSING MD STATE RT 140...AND LIFTED 
BEFORE REACHING BROOKSHIRE COURT.

INITIAL TORNADO TOUCHDOWN OCCURRED JUST NORTH OF SCAGGSVILLE RD...MD 
ROUTE 216...AND EAST OF ROUTE 29...COLUMBIA PIKE...TOPPING A FEW 
TREES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD JUST NORTH OF HAMMOND MIDDLE SCHOOL AND 
SOUTH OF THE 10500 BLOCK OF GORMAN RD. THE TORNADO PRODUCED 
INTERMITTENT TREE DAMAGE...MAINLY TOPPING OF TALL HARDWOOD TREES IN 
A WOODED AREA ON THE WEST SIDE OF PATUXENT RIDGE RD.

AFTER CROSSING THE MIDDLE PATUXENT RIVER...WHERE IT UPROOTED TWO 
LARGE TREES...THE TORNADO MOVED NORTH INTO A SUBDIVISION... 
UPROOTING AND TOPPING TREES AT THE END OF BROAD CLOTH WAY. TREE 
DAMAGE WAS NOTED BEHIND A POOL NEAR DICKINSON PARK. THE MOST INTENSE 
DAMAGE WAS NOTED IN THE 7400 BLOCK OF WEATHER WORN WAY NEAR THE 
INTERSECTION WITH EDEN BROOK DRIVE...WHERE ABOUT TWO DOZEN MATURE 
HARDWOOD TREES WERE UPROOTED AND SNAPPED BEHIND TWO HOMES. AN 
EYEWITNESS DESCRIBED THE TORNADO AS A LARGE BLACK CLOUD. ONE HOUSE 
THERE SUFFERED ROOF DAMAGE WHEN A LARGE TREE FELL ON IT. ANOTHER 
TOWN HOME ACROSS FROM A DAY CARE ON EDEN BROOK HAD ITS CHIMNEY BLOWN 
OVER.

AFTER PASSING NORTH OF EDEN BROOK DRIVE NEAR FIRST LEAGUE...TORNADO 
DAMAGE WAS MORE INTERMITTENT...WITH SEVERAL TREES TOPPED. ONE LARGE 
LIMB FELL ON A HOUSE ON KINDLER RD AT SINGLE WHEEL PATH. THE TORNADO 
LIFTED JUST BEFORE CROSSING ROUTE 32. AN EYEWITNESS ON RT 32 NEAR 
I-95 APPROX 2 MILES AWAY OBSERVED THE TORNADO JUST BEFORE IT LIFTED.

MAINLY OF A FEW TREES UPROOTED AND SEVERAL LARGE LIMBS SNAPPED. THE 
DEBRIS FIELD HERE EXHIBITED EVIDENCE OF CYCLONIC CURVATURE 
CONSISTENT WITH A WEAK EF-0 TORNADO.

ALONG A BRIEF AND CONCENTRATED PATH THAT BEGAN NEAR LEMON BRIDGE 
ROAD AND WILDLIFE LOOP SOUTH AND ENDED NEAR SOUTH ROAD AND WILDLIFE 
LOOP SOUTH. IN THIS PORTION OF FOREST...SEVERAL TREES WERE UPROOTED 
OR SNAPPED...WITH OTHER ADJACENT TREES EXHIBITING SNAPPED LIMBS.

...SUMMARY...

A TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A GROUND SURVEY 
OF DAMAGE NEAR PLEASANT HILLS IN HARFORD COUNTY MD. BASED ON THIS 
SURVEY ALONG WITH RADAR DATA AND EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS THE TEAM 
DETERMINED THAT AN EF-1 TORNADO HIT THE PLEASANT HILLS AREA TWO 
MILES SOUTHWEST OF BEL AIR MARYLAND.

INITIAL TREE DAMAGE WAS NOTED IN THE STONEYBROOK COMMUNITY ALONG 
STREAMSIDE DRIVE. THE TORNADO CROSSED MOUNTAIN ROAD AND THEN TRAVELED
ALONG THE MANY STRIP MALLS AND BUSINESSES ALONG THE ROUTE 1-BEL AIR 
ROAD CORRIDOR IN PLEASANT HILLS. THE SURVEY TEAM FOUND MANY DOWNED 
WIRES AND TREES IN THIS AREA AS WELL AS MANY BUSINESS SIGNS BLOWN 
OUT. ROOF AND SIDING DAMAGE WAS ALSO NOTED ON SEVERAL PROPERTIES. A 
DENTIST OFFICE IN THE 2300 BLOCK OF BEL AIR LOST A PORTION OF ITS 
ROOT. SOME DEBRIS AND SIGNS WERE CARRIED A HALF MILE ALONG THE 
TORNADO TRACK.

THE TORNADO REACHED ITS PEAK INTENSITY ALONG WEST GROVE AVENUE AND
EUTAW PLACE. THE BUSINESSES IN THIS AREA WERE SEVERELY DAMAGED. 
WAREHOUSES HAD THEIR FRONT DOORS AND WINDOWS BLOWN OUT AND THEN HAD 
SIGNIFICANT ROOF AND WALL DAMAGE AS THE WINDS EXITED THE STRUCTURES. 
A LIGHT PICKUP TRUCK WAS PICKED UP BY THE WIND AND OVERTURNED. A 
SMALL OFFICE AND STORAGE CONCRETE BLOCK STRUCTURE WAS UNROOFED AND 
THEN HAD ITS WALLS BLOWN IN. THE FALLING BLOCKS FELL ON TWO MEN 
SHELTERING INSIDE WHO WERE INJURED.

A NEARBY WAL-MART PARKING LOT HAD STREET SIGN AND SOME TREE DAMAGE. 
THE TORNADO CREATED CHAOTIC TREE DAMAGE ALONG HARFORD ROAD JUST WEST 
OF CONNELLY ROAD IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA BEFORE LIFTING.

A TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A GROUND SURVEY 
OF DAMAGE 2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF BELLEGROVE IN EASTERN ALLEGANY COUNTY 
MARYLAND. BASED ON THIS SURVEY ALONG WITH RADAR DATA THE TEAM 
DETERMINED THAT AN EF-1 TORNADO OCCURRED NEAR LITTLE ORLEANS.

THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF ORLEANS ROAD NE 
AND TURKEY FARM ROAD NE AND TRACKED NORTHEAST. OVER A TRACK NEARLY 1 
MILE LONG...THE TORNADO SNAPPED NUMEROUS TREES AND UPROOTED ONE 
LARGE AND SEVERAL SMALLER TREES. ELECTRIFIED FENCING HAD TO BE 
REPAIRED AND TREES REMOVED FROM TURKEY FARM ROAD NE. NO DAMAGE WAS 
NOTED TO ANY STRUCTURES.

A TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A GROUND SURVEY 
OF DAMAGE FROM FORT MEADE TO BWI AIRPORT. BASED ON THIS SURVEY ALONG 
WITH RADAR DATA THE TEAM DETERMINED THAT AN EF-0 TORNADO OCCURRED IN 
NORTHWESTERN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY MARYLAND.

DAMAGE ENCOUNTERED ALONG THE CIRCULATION PATH WAS PRIMARILY TO 
TREES...CONSISTING OF UPROOTED AND SNAPPED TREES AND LIMBS. THE 
TORNADO DEVELOPED JUST SOUTH OF FORT MEADE AND CAUSED DAMAGE 
PRIMARILY TO TREES ON AND ADJACENT TO THE PROPERTY.  A PARKING GATE 
ALSO WAS BENT BY THE WIND.

MINOR DAMAGE WAS NOTED TO EAVES AND SIDING AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX 
ALONG DISNEY ROAD...WHERE TREE DAMAGE ALSO WAS FOUND.  DAMAGE TO 
TREES WAS ENCOUNTERED ALONG CARRIAGE DRIVE...GOLDEN PINE CIRCLE AND 
GESNA ROAD...AND TO TREES AND HOUSE SIDING ALONG FAIRBANKS DRIVE. A 
SUN ROOM ON ONE HOUSE IN THIS AREA SUFFERED UPLIFT OF A PORTION OF 
ITS ROOF...BUT THIS UPLIFT APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT IN LARGE PART OF 
CHANNELED WIND.

THE TORNADO THEN WEAKENED CONSIDERABLY AS IT CROSSED MD-170 AND 
ENTERED THE PROPERTY OF BWI THURGOOD MARSHALL AIRPORT...WHERE THE 
DECAYING TORNADO WAS OBSERVED BY TOWER PERSONNEL AND AIRPORT PATRONS 
CROSSING THE WESTERN PORTION OF A RUNWAY. A SURVEY OF THE AIRPORT 
PROPERTY FOUND NO DAMAGE. THE TORNADO LIFTED AS IT MOVED NORTH OF 
THE AIRPORT.

ALL DAMAGE SURVEYED WAS CONSISTENT WITH WINDS OF EF-0 MAGNITUDE UP 
TO 80 MPH.
