National Weather Service Partnerships
In order to fulfill its missions, the National Weather Service works in cooperation with other state and federal agencies. Here at the MARFC, we work closely with the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
U.S. Geological Survey
The Geological Survey maintains the vast network of stream gages that are vital to river forecasting operations. More information about the USGS-NWS Partnership can be found in these two Fact Sheets:
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
The Corps of Engineers operate the flood control reservoirs in our forecast area. They provide us data such as the amount of water being released from a dam and the elevation of the reservoir behind the dam. In turn, the Corps uses our forecast data to make adjustments to their dam releases.
