The various severe weather reporting criteria that we would like you to use are listed at the links that follow. We have split the criteria into warm season (i.e. thunderstorms) and cool season (i.e. winter) lists.
There are a number of means in which to relay your report to the NWS.
- Amateur Radio
Local coordinators or net controllers will collect and consolidate reports and forward them to the NWS via ham radio, e-mail, phone or fax.

Severe weather observation
Actual time that the event occurred.This is the preferred method for reports of tornadoes, extremely high winds or widespread damage, or weather-related injuries or deaths.
Please provide the following information at a minimum...
Identification (name and/or spotter ID), location, severe weather observation, actual time that the event occurred.
Your report will be used for our severe weather verification, Local Storm Reports (during severe weather events) and Public Information Statements (during non-severe weather).
