The National Weather Service forecast office in Upton, New York (Central
Long Island) will relay official
air quality information from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut state
environmental agencies, New York State
Department of Environmental Conservation (NY DEC), New Jersey Department of Environmental
Protection (NJ DEP), and Connecticut Department of
Environmental Protection (CT DEP).
Air Quality Index (AQI) – a measure of how polluted the air is and what
health effects this results in

Acceptable, but moderate health concern for very small number of

General public not likely to be affected. Members of sensitive
groups may experience health effects.

Unhealthy
|
Everyone may begin experience health effects and sensitive groups
more serious health effects.

Very Unhealthy
|
Health alert: everyone may experience more serious health effects.

301-500
|
Hazardous
|
Health warnings of emergency conditions. The entire population is
more likely to be affected.
