...SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK...

WIDESPREAD SHOWERS...WITH EMBEDDED STRONG THUNDERSTORMS...WILL
DEVELOP AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT APPROACHING THE REGION TONIGHT.
STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS HAVE ALREADY DEVELOPED TODAY ALONG
THE CENTRAL GULF COAST AND PORTIONS OF THE DEEP SOUTH...AND THESE
THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY SPREAD NORTHWARD TOWARD THE AREA THROUGH
TONIGHT. ALTHOUGH INSTABILITY IS EXPECTED TO BE SOMEWHAT LIMITED
TONIGHT...A FAVORABLE TURNING AND INCREASE OF THE WINDS WITH
HEIGHT IN THE ATMOSPHERE WILL FAVOR SOME SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPMENT.

THE MOST FAVORED AREA FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT WILL BE
ACROSS PIEDMONT SECTIONS OF NORTHEAST GEORGIA...UPSTATE SOUTH
CAROINA...AND THE CHARLOTTE METRO AREA. THE THREAT OF SEVERE
WEATHER WILL INCREASE RAPIDLY LATE THIS EVENING FOR WESTERN
SECTIONS...AND THEN SPREAD INTO EASTERN PIEDMONT LOCATIONS THROUGH
THE EARLY MORNING HOURS THURSDAY.

ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP TONIGHT WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO
PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS OF 60 MPH OR GREATER...AND POSSIBLY A
TORNADO. IN THESE LOW INSTABILITY BUT HIGH WIND SHEAR
SETUPS...SEVERE WIND GUSTS AND TORNADOES CAN OCCUR WITH LITTLE OR
NO LIGHTNING OR THUNDER TO HERALD THE APPROACH OF THE DAMAGING
WINDS.

ANY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS COULD ALSO CREATE LOCAL FLOODING PROBLEMS
IN AREAS THAT HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED ABUNDANT RAINFALL TODAY. IT
WILL BE IMPORTANT TO KEEP ABREAST OF THE LATEST SEVERE WEATHER
DEVELOPMENTS THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS...SINCE WATCHES OR WARNINGS
COULD BE NEEDED TONIGHT. LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR
LOCAL MEDIA FOR THE LATEST UPDATES.
