PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0503 AM CDT SAT MAR 15 2008

...MORE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE SOUTHEAST US
TODAY...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS
OF THE SOUTHEAST US TODAY.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

       NORTHERN AND EASTERN ALABAMA
       NORTHERN AND CENTRAL GEORGIA
       NORTHERN AND WESTERN SOUTH CAROLINA

SURROUNDING THE MODERATE RISK AREA...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM TENNESSEE TO NORTH CAROLINA...SOUTH ACROSS
PORTIONS OF ALABAMA AND GEORGIA.

A POTENT AND FAST-MOVING MID/UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE AND ASSOCIATED
SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL DEVELOP EAST ACROSS THE LOWER
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THROUGH THIS MORNING. ALREADY...THIS STORM SYSTEM
IS AIDING STRONG TO LOCALLY SEVERE THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT ACROSS
PARTS OF MISSISSIPPI...ALABAMA...AND GEORGIA EARLY TODAY.

THESE INITIAL STORMS MAY WEAKEN SOMEWHAT DURING THE MORNING HOURS AS
THE SURFACE LOW AND ASSOCIATED WARM FRONT MOVE ACROSS THE TENNESSEE
VALLEY. A WARM AND MOIST AIR MASS IN THE WAKE OF THE MORNING STORMS
SHOULD BECOME INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE WITH HEATING OF THE DAY. AN AXIS
OF MODEST TO LOCALLY STRONG INSTABILITY IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP
ACROSS THE SYSTEM WARM SECTOR FROM THE TENNESSEE VALLEY SOUTHEAST
ACROSS GEORGIA...AND ACROSS THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN PIEDMONT AREA
FROM SOUTH CAROLINA INTO NORTH CAROLINA.

LIFT AND STRONG WIND SHEAR NEAR THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND ACROSS
THE WARM SECTOR WILL AID SEVERE/ORGANIZED THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT
DURING THE AFTERNOON. THESE STORMS WILL TRACK EAST ACROSS THE
AFOREMENTIONED AREAS AND WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE
HAIL...HIGH WINDS...AND TORNADOES.

AN ENHANCED TORNADO THREAT MAY EVOLVE FROM PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST
ALABAMA...ACROSS NORTHERN/CENTRAL GEORGIA...AND INTO THE CAROLINAS
PIEDMONT REGION AS A SECONDARY SMALLER-SCALE SURFACE LOW DEVELOPS
AND MOVES OVER THESE AREAS. THE PIEDMONT FRONT WAS ALREADY IN PLACE
ACROSS THE AREA AND THIS BOUNDARY COULD PROVIDE A FOCUS FOR A FEW
STRONG TORNADOES LATER THIS AFTERNOON.

THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER
SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER
RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.
