PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1125 AM CDT SAT MAR 15 2008

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE SOUTHEAST US
THROUGH THIS EVENING...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS
OF THE SOUTHEAST US THROUGH THIS EVENING.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

       NORTHERN GEORGIA
PARTS OF SOUTH-CENTRAL AND SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA
       SOUTH CAROLINA

SURROUNDING THE MODERATE RISK AREA...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM PARTS OF NORTHEASTERN MISSISSIPPI AND
WESTERN TENNESSEE TO NORTHERN AND EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA.

A POTENT SEVERE WEATHER EVENT APPEARS LIKELY TODAY FROM NORTHERN
GEORGIA EASTWARD ACROSS PARTS OF THE CAROLINAS. EXPECT SUPERCELL
THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF STRONG TORNADOES...AS WELL AS HAIL AND
DAMAGING THUNDERSTORM WINDS.

A SMALL BUT STRONG TROUGH IN MIDDLE AND UPPER LEVELS WILL MOVE
RAPIDLY EASTWARD ACROSS THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY AND SOUTHERN
APPALACHIAN AREA TODAY AND TONIGHT. AHEAD OF THIS TROUGH...WIND
SHEAR WILL BECOME MORE INTENSE -- ESPECIALLY AHEAD OF A SURFACE LOW
PRESSURE AREA THAT WILL MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS NORTHERN GEORGIA AND
THE CAROLINAS. A WARM FRONT WILL BECOME BETTER DEFINED OVER THE
MODERATE RISK AREA AHEAD OF THE LOW...AND WILL FOCUS THE GREATEST
SEVERE WEATHER THREAT RATHER TIGHTLY. ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE WARM
FRONT...THE AIR AT THE SURFACE SHOULD DESTABILIZE RAPIDLY THROUGH
MID TO LATE AFTERNOON AS IT HEATS AND MOISTENS. ENOUGH INSTABILITY
AND SHEAR WILL PERSIST INTO THE EVENING TO MAINTAIN A SEVERE WEATHER
DANGER ACROSS PARTS OF THE CAROLINAS ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE WARM
FRONT.

THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER
SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER
RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.

..EDWARDS.. 03/15/2008
