.A COLD UPPER TROUGH AND AN ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL APPROACH
THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS MONDAY NIGHT...WHILE A STRONG SURFACE
LOW DEEPENS OVER THE GREAT LAKES. THE FRONT WILL GO THROUGH THE
AREA EARLY TUESDAY...BRINGING IN MUCH COLDER AIR...WHILE LOW LEVEL
MOISTURE WRAPS AROUND THE GREAT LAKES LOW AND INTO THE NORTH
CAROLINA MOUNTAINS FROM THE NORTHWEST. THIS WILL CREATE A
PROLONGED PERIOD OF COLD TEMPERATURES...GUSTY WINDS AND
SNOW...LATE MONDAY NIGHT INTO MID DAY WEDNESDAY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED
A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. 

PERIODS OF SNOW WILL BEGIN MONDAY NIGHT OVER THE NORTH CAROLINA
MOUNTAINS. SNOWFALL RATES ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE TUESDAY AND
CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING BEFORE TAPERING OFF. STORM
TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 4 TO 6 INCHES IS EXPECTED ALONG THE NORTH
CAROLINA MOUNTAIN COUNTIES BORDERING TENNESSEE...WITH LOCALLY
HIGHER AMOUNTS.

TEMPERATURES WILL PLUMMET LATE TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT WHILE
WINDS INCREASE FROM THE NORTHWEST...SO ALONG WITH SNOW...BLOWING
SNOW AND DANGEROUS WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
