.A COLD FRONT WILL CROSS THE WESTERN CAROLINAS TODAY. BEHIND THE
FRONT...STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BRING MUCH COLDER AIR TO THE
REGION...WITH SNOW SHOWERS DEVELOPING ACROSS THE NORTH CAROLINA
MOUNTAINS TONIGHT.

EST WEDNESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED
A WINTER STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS
EVENING TO 6 PM EST WEDNESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO
LONGER IN EFFECT. 

NORTHWEST FLOW SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE
NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS TONIGHT AS TEMPERATURES DROP BEHIND A DEPARTING
COLD FRONT. THESE SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON
WEDNESDAY BEFORE BEGINNING TO TAPER OFF WEDNESDAY NIGHT. SNOWFALL
ACCUMULATIONS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE IN LOCATIONS ALONG
AND NEAR THE TENNESSEE STATE LINE BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT...WITH A FEW
LOCALLY GREATER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ALONG
NORTHWEST FACING SLOPES. TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE
QUITE VARIABLE ACROSS THESE AREAS...AS IS TYPICAL WITH THESE
TYPES OF EVENTS.

IN ADDITION TO THE SNOWFALL...GUSTY WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE
MOUNTAINS. REDUCED VISIBILITIES DUE TO BLOWING SNOW WILL BE
POSSIBLE AND WINDS WILL COMBINE WITH COLD TEMPERATURES TO PRODUCE
POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS WIND CHILL VALUES.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE.  THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS
EVENING TO 6 PM EST WEDNESDAY. 

NORTHWEST FLOW SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE
NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS TONIGHT AS TEMPERATURES DROP BEHIND A
DEPARTING COLD FRONT. A FEW SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED OUTSIDE OF
THE FAVORED AREAS ALONG THE TENNESSEE STATE LINE...PRODUCING
PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOWFALL. TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS IN THESE AREAS WILL
GENERALLY RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. A TIGHT
GRADIENT IN SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IS EXPECTED...ESPECIALLY IN MACON
AND BUNCOMBE COUNTIES WHERE THE NORTHERN END OF THE COUNTY WILL
SEE MORE SNOWFALL THAN THE SOUTHERN END OF THE COUNTY.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW...SLEET...OR
FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR
SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE
DRIVING.
