The days are getting longer. We are nearing the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere...the beginning of spring.
Since late December...when the minutes of sunshine were at a minimum of 592 minutes in the Wilmington area...the minutes
possible have increased to approximately 700. The days will continue to increase in length through late June reaching a
maximum of 867 on June 20-21. The US Naval Observatory has a great site
to find the sunrise and sunset times for any area.
The sun is also getting higher in the sky. The altitude has increased almost 20 degrees from a minimum of 32.4 degrees in December
to currently almost 51 degrees. It will continue to increase through late June when it reaches almost 80 degrees. Once again...the
US Naval Observatory has a great interface to find the altitude and
azimuth for any given day at many locations.
