2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season Predictions
The 2008 Hurricane Season is just around the corner...June first to be exact and as usual
...there are no shortage of long range forecasts of just how active the season will be. Below are two
summaries of the most recent forecasts from
Colorado State University and Tropical Storm Risk Inc.

Colorado State University

which was issued in December. The latest forecast calls for:
15 Named Storms
8 Hurricanes
4 Intense Hurricanes(Category 3 or greater)
These numbers represent an increase from the December forecast of 13 named storms...7 hurricanes and 3 intense hurricanes. The latest forecast also calls for an above average chance of a major hurricane hitting the east coast...45 percent. The average chance is 31 percent.
15 Named Storms
8 Hurricanes
4 Intense Hurricanes(Category 3 or greater)
These numbers represent an increase from the December forecast of 13 named storms...7 hurricanes and 3 intense hurricanes. The latest forecast also calls for an above average chance of a major hurricane hitting the east coast...45 percent. The average chance is 31 percent.
Tropical Storm Risk Inc.
Tropical Storm Risk is a British private forecasting firm. Their latest forecast is as follows:

7.8 Hurricanes
3.5 Intense Hurricanes(Category 3 or greater)
These numbers represent a slight decrease from their December forecast of 15.4 named storms...8.3 hurricanes and 3.7 intense hurricanes. They also predict four named storms with 1.7 of these being hurricanes.

3.5 Intense Hurricanes(Category 3 or greater)
These numbers represent a slight decrease from their December forecast of 15.4 named storms...8.3 hurricanes and 3.7 intense hurricanes. They also predict four named storms with 1.7 of these being hurricanes.
