1996 brought three systems to the Carolinas. Arthur developed near the Bahamas on June 17th and moved inland near Cape Lookout on June 19th as a Tropical Storm. Bertha formed near the Cape Verde Islands on the 5th of July and eventually moved inland along the Pender county coast on the 12th of July as a category 2 hurricane. Fran formed southeast of the Cape Verde Island on August 23rd and made landfall as a category 3 hurricane on September 5th near Wilmington.
