Stratus fractus

Additional notes
Stratus fractus are commonly referred to as
scud
clouds. They are common to thunderstorms and do not represent any
kind of severe weather. The clouds in this photo may look similar
to a wall cloud,
but look closely. Notice the clouds are not
attached to the cloud base above them. This is a sign that this
ominous lowering is a scud cloud and nothing more.
