Altocumulus
are midlevel clouds and are very common.
Thickening altocumulus clouds may signify an approaching warm front or
storm system. With several thousand feet between the base of the
clouds and the horizon, altocumulus may be lit brilliantly by a setting
sun allowing for a beautiful sunset.
