The broken windows of this well-built
structure, and in some cases complete loss of window panes, is
consistent with
EF1
tornado damage. This damage suggests winds around 100 mph.
The tornado that caused this damage tore a
devastating path across Xenia, Ohio during the Super Outbreak of 1974.
The tornado, rated F5
on the old Fujita scale, killed over 30 people, injured 1100, and
destroyed more than 1000 homes. This building
escaped the heaviest damage from this tornado. Some of the F5

Safety Note: It is critical that all
schools have a tornado safety plan in place, and that it be practiced so
that are students and faculty can be moved to a safe area in just a few
minutes. Move to an interior hallway on the lowest level of the
building, keeping sure everyone is away from windows. Avoid large
gymnasiums, auditoriums and cafeterias at all costs, since these
structures may easily collapse, even in a weak tornado.
