Additional notes
A historic flood occurred in March
1997 when the Kentucky River at Falmouth, KY rose to 51.8 feet (for
reference, flood stage is 28 feet, and the stage in mid-June 2007 was 1
foot). 80% of the town was underwater, leading to 5 fatalities.
Even though the flood waters moved less than 5 mph, they were forceful enough to uplift and carry entire houses
and devastated the town.

Safety Note:
Though extreme floods like this one are very rare, if an evacuation
order is placed for your location due to an impending flood, take action
immediately! Flood waters can rise fast and can be accompanied by
dangerous chemicals and debris or deadly currents. In this case,
the rising flood waters trapped hundreds of people in downtown Falmouth.
