Additional notes
As seen here, urbanized areas are more prone to flooding
since impervious surfaces such as roads, parking lots and structures
prevent rainfall from being absorbed into the ground. This leads
to much more runoff which can overload sewers and other drainage systems
(evidenced here by the water gushing out of the ground on the left-hand
side of the photo). Flooding becomes worse when heavy rainfall
occurs over a short period of time.
This photo shows typical minor urban flooding
which is covered by a flood advisory. Generally this type of
flooding will result in standing water over local streets and other
"nuisance" flooding, especially in urban areas.
