PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OH
345 PM EDT FRI JUN 22 2001

...WIND DAMAGE IN WARREN COUNTY DETERMINED TO BE STRAIGHT LINE
WIND...

A SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED THIS AFTERNOON IN WARREN COUNTY OHIO TO VIEW
THE DAMAGE FROM THURSDAYS STORMS. WHILE DAMAGE OCCURRED OVER MUCH OF
WARREN COUNTY...THERE WAS A SORT OF DAMAGE PATH IN SOUTH LEBANON THAT
REQUIRED FURTHER INVESTIGATION.

AT ABOUT 5 PM AND THE MINUTES FOLLOWING...A DAMAGE SWATH BEGAN
ALONG TURTLE CREEK ROAD JUST SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 71. THE DAMAGE
THEN RAN IN A NORTHEAST DIRECTION...WITH NUMEROUS TREES DOWN ALONG
DRY RUN CREEK ON THE NORTH SIDE OF SOUTH LEBANON. THE DAMAGE THEN
CONTINUED...CROSSING SECTION STREET AND THEN CONTINUING ALONG
SHAWHAN ROAD. NUMEROUS TREES WERE EITHER SPLIT OR UPROOTED...ALONG
WITH ROOF DAMAGE AND PORCH DAMAGE.

THE OVERALL DAMAGE PATTERN WAS LAYING IN A NORTHEASTERLY OR
NORTHERLY DIRECTION...WHICH STRONGLY INDICATES STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.
EYEWITNESS REPORTS INDICATED TREES ALL BENDING IN THE SAME
NORTHEASTERLY DIRECTION BEFORE EITHER UPROOTING OR BREAKING.

REMEMBER THAT STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE CAN AND OFTEN DOES EXCEED
THAT OF WEAK F0 OR F1 TORNADOES. UPON EXAMINING THE DAMAGE...IT WAS
CLEAR THAT THE WINDS WELL EXCEEDED 60 MPH...POSSIBLY NEARING 100
MPH.
