Severe Weather and Tornadoes

Numerous thunderstorms developed along a warm front set up across northern Indiana into the Miami Valley into south central Ohio. Very warm and unstable air south of the warm front provided plenty of fuel for these thunderstorms. A mid level disturbance provided the lift to make these thunderstorms Severe.

Brown County -- Looking west from Upper Five Mile West road. Just north of Blue Sky Park road. Metal sheeting from a house to the south. Two story house in background received damage. Note different shade of color on roof. Tornadic damage (F0).
Brown County -- Same location as above but looking east. Earlier in the day tree limbs completely covered this home. Tornadic damage (F0).
Brown County -- Two large trees uprooted. They fell to the north. Same location as above. Tornadic damage (F0).
Fayette County OH -- Creek road south of Washington Court House near Rock Mills. Looking east. Straight-line wind damage.
Fayette County OH -- Sturdy barn/garage destroyed on SR 753 between Good Hope and Ghormley. Looking west. Tornadic Damage (F1).
Fayette County OH -- Barn/garage used to be here (SR 753 between Good Hope and Ghormley). Debris from barn/garage scattered with another barn in next picture. It traveled approximately 2 miles before dropped. Looking southeast. Tornadic Damage (F1).
Fayette County OH / Ross County -- Barn/garage destroyed. Barn/garage from previous link is also in this damage path. The damage trickles into Ross county. Looking southeast. Tornadic Damage (F0-F1).
Fayette County OH -- Siding of house on Ghormley road is speckled with hail some of the holes support golf ball size hail. Severe Hail damage.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS DETERMINED THAT DAMAGE NEAR MT. ORAB WAS CAUSED BY A TORNADO. SEVERAL MOBILE HOMES AND ONE HOUSE LOCATED ON UPPER FIVE MILE ROAD AND MALADY ROAD...ABOUT 3 MILES NORTHWEST OF GREENBUSH...WERE DAMAGED BY WINDS AND TREES FALLING ON THEM. THE STRENGTH OF THE TORNADO DAMAGE WAS RATED AS AN F0 ON THE FUJITA SCALE...WHICH CONTAINS WINDS OF 40 MPH TO 72 MPH. THE WIDTH OF THE DAMAGE PATH WAS ABOUT 500 FEET AND THE LENGTH WAS APPOXIMATELY ONE MILE. $$ SITES

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PERFORMED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE SURVEYS IN BROWN COUNTY. DAMAGE TO A WELL BUILT HOME NORTHWEST OF GREENBUSH IN THE VICINITY OF FIVE MILE ROAD AND MALADY ROAD...HAD A PORTION OF THE ROOF PEELED OFF. THIS DAMAGE IS CONSISTENT WITH THE LOWER END OF THE F1 CATEGORY ON THE FUJITA SCALE...WITH ESTIMATED WINDS OF 75 TO 80 MPH. THE F1 CATEGORY ESTIMATES WIND SPEEDS BETWEEN 73 MPH TO 112 MPH. THE WIDTH OF THE DAMAGE PATH WAS ABOUT 500 FEET AND THE LENGTH HAS BEEN CHANGED TO TWO MILES IN LENGTH...RUNNING FROM JUST WEST OF UPPER FIVE MILE ROAD TO JUST EAST OF BODMAN ROAD. $$ SITES

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN WILMINGTON HAS DETERMINED THAT DAMAGE NEAR GHORMLEY OR ABOUT 10 MILES SOUTH OF WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE WAS CAUSED BY A TORNADO. A WELL BUILT BARN-GARAGE NEAR GHORMLEY ROAD WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. A GENTLEMAN IN THIS BARN AT THE TIME WAS INJURED. ABOUT A HALF MILE TO THE SOUTHEAST A METAL BARN/GARAGE WAS LIFTED OFF ITS FOUNDATION AND DEPOSITED APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES TO THE SOUTHEAST. ABOUT 2 MILES TO SOUTHEAST NEAR THE FAYETTE/ROSS COUNTY LINE ANOTHER BARN/GARAGE WAS DESTROYED. DEBRIS FROM THE TWO BARNS/GARAGES WAS SPREAD DOWN WIND INTO ROSS COUNTY. FURTHER TO THE SOUTHEAST...ABOUT A 1/2 MILE INTO ROSS COUNTY A WINDMILL WAS TWISTED. A TORNADO ALSO TOUCHDOWN WITH THIS SAME STORM IN SOUTHWESTERN FAYETTE COUNTY. A SPOTTER REPORTED A BRIEF TOUCHDOWN IN A FIELD NEAR SNOW HILL ROAD AND GREENFIELD SABINA ROAD. THE DAMAGE IN SOUTHEASTERN FAYETTE COUNTY WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE F1 CATEGORY ON THE FUJITA SCALE...WITH WIND SPEEDS BETWEEN 73 MPH TO 112 MPH. THE DAMAGE IN FAR WESTERN ROSS COUNTY AND SOUTHWESTERN FAYETTE COUNTY IS CONSISTENT WITH F0 CATEGORY ON THE FUJITA SCALE...WITH WIND SPEEDS 40 TO 72 MPH. $$ TIPTON
