Wilmington and Bethel Tornadoes

The National Weather Service has confirmed tornado touchdowns in Wilmington (Clinton County) and Bethel (Clermont County).

The full text of the public information statement is below.

In addition to the three tornadoes detailed below, numerous reports of large hail (1" in diameter or bigger) and funnel clouds were received.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED AN ADDITIONAL BRIEF TORNADO
TOUCHDOWN 3.8 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF WILMINGTON IN CLINTON COUNTY OHIO.

A STORM SURVEY CONDUCTED BY A TEAM OF NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
METEOROLOGISTS FOUND EFO DAMAGE FROM A SECOND TORNADO TOUCHDOWN ON MAY
30TH. THIS TOUCHDOWN OCCURRED AFTER METEOROLOGISTS SPOTTED A
BRIEF TOUCHDOWN JUST NORTHEAST OF THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
OFFICE. THE TORNADO LIFTED ON THE FAR WEST SIDE OF THE WILMINGTON
AIRPORT BEFORE MAKING ITS SECOND BRIEF TOUCH DOWN. DAMAGE FROM THE
SECOND TOUCH DOWN WAS FOUND SOUTHEAST OF THE OFFICE WHERE THE
TORNADO WAS SIGHTED.

THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE INCLUDED A BARN ROOF PARTIALLY
DESTROYED...A SHED FLIPPED AND BLOWN OFF ITS FOUNDATION...AROUND TWO
TREES UPROOTED...AND A NUMBER OF LARGE LIMBS DOWNED. METAL SIDING
WAS RIPPED OFF THE BARN ROOF AND THROWN 20 YARDS. THE WALLS OF THE
BARN WERE ALSO DAMAGED.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO TOUCHDOWN 2
MILES SOUTH OF WILMINGTON IN CLINTON COUNTY OHIO.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS WITNESSED A ROTATING WALL
CLOUD APPROACHING THE OFFICE IN ASSOCIATION WITH A SUPERCELL
THUNDERSTORM MOVING SOUTHEAST. THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN A FIELD
NORTHEAST OF THE OFFICE...TRACKING SOUTHEASTWARD...AND COMING
WITHIN 1000 FEET OF THE OFFICE. WHILE NO CONDENSATION FUNNEL WAS
VISIBLE...DEBRIS AND DUST WERE KICKED UP IN THE NEARBY FARM
FIELDS...WITH CLEAR ROTATION EVIDENT TO NUMEROUS NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS. THE TORNADO LIFTED AS IT APPROACHED DAVIDS
DRIVE...ON THE FAR WEST SIDE OF THE WILMINGTON AIRPORT.

NO DAMAGE WAS REPORTED WITH THIS TORNADO.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO TOUCHDOWN IN
BETHEL IN CLERMONT COUNTY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A DAMAGE SURVEY IN BETHEL.
NO SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS FOUND DURING THE SURVEY. HOWEVER...NUMEROUS
EYEWITNESS REPORTS AND VIDEO EVIDENCE SUGGEST THAT A TORNADO
TOUCHED DOWN ON THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF BETHEL...NEAR FOSSYL DRIVE
AND THE BASEBALL DIAMONDS AT BURKE PARK. THE TORNADO MOVED EAST-
SOUTHEAST AND DOWNED A TREE LIMB ON SOUTH ASH STREET. IT LIFTED
SOON THEREAFTER AS IT PASSED DUE SOUTH OF DOWNTOWN BETHEL.
