...SUMMARY...

A TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONDUCTED A GROUND SURVEY OF
DAMAGE FROM FORT MEADE TO BWI AIRPORT. BASED ON THIS SURVEY ALONG WITH
RADAR DATA THE TEAM DETERMINED THAT AN EF-0 TORNADO OCCURRED IN
NORTHWESTERN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY MARYLAND.

DAMAGE ENCOUNTERED ALONG THE CIRCULATION PATH WAS PRIMARILY TO
TREES...CONSISTING OF UPROOTED AND SNAPPED TREES AND LIMBS. THE
TORNADO DEVELOPED JUST SOUTH OF FORT MEADE AND CAUSED DAMAGE PRIMARILY
TO TREES ON AND ADJACENT TO THE PROPERTY. A PARKING GATE ALSO WAS
BENT BY THE WIND.

MINOR DAMAGE WAS NOTED TO EAVES AND SIDING AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX
ALONG DISNEY ROAD...WHERE TREE DAMAGE ALSO WAS FOUND. DAMAGE TO TREES
WAS ENCOUNTERED ALONG CARRIAGE DRIVE...GOLDEN PINE CIRCLE AND GESNA
ROAD...AND TO TREES AND HOUSE SIDING ALONG FAIRBANKS DRIVE. A SUN ROOM
ON ONE HOUSE IN THIS AREA SUFFERED UPLIFT OF A PORTION OF ITS ROOF...
BUT THIS UPLIFT APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT IN LARGE PART OF CHANNELED
WIND.

THE TORNADO THEN WEAKENED CONSIDERABLY AS IT CROSSED MD-170 AND
ENTERED THE PROPERTY OF BWI THURGOOD MARSHALL AIRPORT...WHERE THE
DECAYING TORNADO WAS OBSERVED BY TOWER PERSONNEL AND AIRPORT PATRONS
CROSSING THE WESTERN PORTION OF A RUNWAY. A SURVEY OF THE AIRPORT
PROPERTY FOUND NO DAMAGE. THE TORNADO LIFTED AS IT MOVED NORTH OF THE
AIRPORT.

ALL DAMAGE SURVEYED WAS CONSISTENT WITH WINDS OF EF-0 MAGNITUDE UP TO
80 MPH.
