Fire
News
January 25, 2007
On Feburary 15th, Fire Weather Planning Forecasts are
scheduled to resume from NWS Sterling. From that point forward, the
Fire Weather Planning Forecast will become a year round product from
NWS
Sterling.
Red Flag Criteria remain unchanged from 2006. Sustained
20 mph winds, joined with relative
humidity
below 30% and fuel
moistures
below 8%, will
spark a call to the various state agencies for a discussion on whether
Red
Flags are warranted.
The updated 2007 Fire Weather Operations Plan for
NWS Sterling has been issued and is linked to our main fire weather
web page. The Virginia Ops plan that encompasses a combined plan for
all of the VA NWS forecast offices should be updated by Feb 15th, 2007.
The Sterling Fire Weather web page remains the same.
If you see something that you use frequently, that you would like to
see linked to our page, let me know and I can add it.
There is a link on our
fire web page for archived RAWS data. This site contains
all RAWS data that has ever been transmitted. There are also
some interesting graphs and wind roses you can make thru this page.
Comments and questions are always welcome. Feel free to drop me a
line. Here's to another
exceptional season of fire suppression!
