Departure Maps
Since August 1, 2002, the precipitation data
for 22 counties in western PA and Garrett County, MD has been provided by the Ohio River
Forecast Center (OHRFC) in Wilmington, Ohio, and no longer computed by
MARFC.
While MARFC will continue to include the totals and associated
departures on our homepage map plots, on rare occasions communications
or other problems may preclude the western PA/MD data from arriving
from OHRFC in time for inclusion in the daily map generation process.
In such cases, every attempt will be made to backfill data to maintain
continuity for subsequent maps.
In addition, MARFC is in the process of updating what we consider the "normal"
monthly precipitation for the 179 counties in our area of responsibility. These values are based on individual
rain gauge data over a longer period of record (approximately 50 years) than the
previous set (30 years), with some adjustments made for topography and individual gauge history. The new normals will be phased in each
month on a state-by-state basis.
