2009 NWS Newport Hurricane Conference
Pivers Island, Beaufort, NC - June 23, 2009

The National Weather Service in Newport, NC in conjunction with the NOAA Center for Coastal Fisheries and Habitat Research hosted a hurricane conference on June 23, 2009 at the NOAA facility on Pivers Island, NC. This is the second year in a row the conference was held at this location. Many thanks to our National Ocean Service partners for hosting this conference! The conference was well attended with at least 50 emergency responders including North Carolina Emergency Management officials , media, academia, general public, and NOAA.
The topics included: North Carolina Hurricane History, Hurricane Floyd 10th Anniversary, Seasonal Hurricane Forecast Update, NWS Changes during the 2009 Season, Preparing your boat before a storm, ECU storm surge visualization tools, the NWS Newport Coastal Flood Program, and a Tropical Q and A, feedback session with NWS Newport. Most of the power point presentations have been included.
