Our Staff

MIC Photograph

This is our boss, Rich Bandy, the Meteorologist in Charge (MIC) at our office. Rich recieved his bachelors degree from Penn State. He makes sure our staff works efficiently as a team, and ensures that we provide the best quality service to the public.

ASA Photograph

This is our Administrative Support Assistant (ASA), Becky Allphin. Becky keeps our ever-busy office environment running perfectly smooth! She will greet you if you come and visit our office during normal working hours.

WCM Photograph

This is our Warning Coordination Meteorologist (WCM), John Cole. He recieved his bachelors degree from Florida State. He is on the road quite a bit keeping up with local officials and Emergency Managers. He provides Severe Weather Spotter Training, Hurricane Seminars, School Presentations, and Boating Weather classes. Call him at (252) 223-5122 ext.223 to schedule a talk.

SOO Photograph

This is our Science and Operations Officer (SOO), Carin Goodall-Gosnell. Carin conducts research projects here at the office. Carin also trains the staff of meteorologists, keeping them up to date on the latest developments in forecasting and new technologies. She also develops programs to give experience to student volunteers who assist in the daily activities of the office.

Senior Forecaster Photograph

Our Senior Forecasters are the head forecasters on shift. When the MIC isn't on duty, they are the ones in charge. The Senior Forecasters usually have the most experience in the office when it comes to severe weather. Pictured left to right: Brian Cullen, Chris Collins, John Elardo, Jim Merrell, Bob Frederick.

General Forecaster Photograph

General Forecasters work along side the Senior Forecasters. They assist in issuing the multitude of products that are sent from our office each day. In addition, many of them use the experience gained as a General to become a Senior Forecaster. Pictured left to right: Mark Willis, Scott Kennedy, Jim Wingenroth, Sarah Jamison. Not pictured: Hal Austin.

HMT Photograph

Hydrometeorological Technicians (HMT) and Forecater Interns launch our weather balloon each day from the office. The balloon launches at 7:00am and 7:00pm EDT. Most Forecaster Interns will eventually move on to becomming a General Forecaster. Pictured left to right: Casey Dail and Jeremy Schulz.

ITO Photograph

Meet our Information Technology Officer (ITO), Donnie King. Donnie is the go to guy when it comes to computers around the office. He keeps the enormous number of meteorology based programs we have on our computers running smoothly.

ESA Photograph

Terry Lowe is our Electronic Systems Analyst (ESA). Terry manages all of the electronic systems in the office and out in the field. Thanks to him all our equipment stays up and running. He's also a bit camera shy!

ET Photograph

Ed Harbeck and Jon Petry are our Electronic Technicians (ET). Ed and Jon maintain and repair all of the National Weather Service's equipment in our County Warning Area (CWA). When things break down, these two are first on the scene to make sure we don't miss a step in providing timely and accurate warnings.

Volunteers Photograph

Student volunteers gain some experience with the NWS by helping out around the office. Many of them do a research project on top of helping out with the daily duties. Rebecca and Mark shown above both went to NC State! We encourage all students who wish to seek employment with the NWS to volunteer and gain some experience.

If you wish to become a volunteer, please contact our Science and Operations Officer Carin Goodall-Gosnell.
