Welcome to Our Office!
The National Weather Service Office is located at 533 Roberts Road, in
Newport, North Carolina. Newport is located just west of Morehead City,
in Carteret County. We serve most of Eastern North Carolina, including
the Outer Banks. We provide the public with weather forecasts for land,
sea, and aviation interests. We also warn the public of severe weather.
We provide tours to small groups of 25 people or less. We also go out
into the schools and provide persentations. To schedule a tour or set
up a presentation contact John Cole at (252) 223-5122 ext. 223.
This site will take you around our office and show you the tools of forecasting.
Meet the Front Office
This is our Administrative Support Assistant Dawn. She adds a local flavor to the office since she comes from Eastern North Carolina.
She will greet you if you come and visit our office during normal working hours.
This is our boss, Tom Kriehn, the Meteorologist in Charge at our office. You can tell by his
organized desk and workspace that he runs a very well managed operation!
This is our Science and Operations Officer, Carin Goodall-Gosnell. Carin conducts research projects here at the office.
Carin also trains the staff of meteorologists, keeping them
up to date on the latest developments in forecasting and new technologies. She also develops programs to give experience to student volunteers
who visit the weather station to gain some work experience.
This is our Warning Coordination Meteorologist, John Cole. He is on the road quite a bit keeping up with local
officials and Emergency Managers. He provides Severe Weather Spotter Training, Hurricane Seminars, School Presentations, and Boating
Weather classes. Call him at (252) 223-5122 ext.223 to schedule a talk.
