Another way to use ESP forecasts is to combine stage values with geospatial data within a GIS. In this example the chances of certain areas within a city being flooded are highlighted in different colors. The greater chance of inundation is in the blue areas along the river channel. Areas less likely to be flooded are shown in yellow and are either further away from the river or are “islands” of higher elevations surrounded by blue. The white areas are the least likely to be flooded, although a chance still exists.
