Meteorological Model Ensemble River ForecastsGrid Resolution |

Meteorological models provide results on a gridded basis, meaning entities are provided at specific locations within a regular grid. Different models provide results at different grid resolutions (i.e. distance between points). Within MMEFS, this information must be interpolated to a finer scale to allow for basin average estimates to be calculated. The following figures show the grid resolution for various meteorological model systems. Note there is a trade-off between grid resolution and availability of model results. The finer the grid resolution, the longer a solution for each time step takes. Therefore, finer resolution models, at this time, tend to provide results for shorter forecast horizons so that model results can be made available at a reasonable time after the start of the model run. |
