SUBJECT: NEW FLOOD INUNDATION MAPS FOR FIVE LOCATIONS ON THE         
         DELAWARE RIVER

EFFECTIVE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2010, THE NATIONAL WEATHER 
SERVICE (NWS) WILL ADD NEW FLOOD INUNDATION MAPS TO THE ADVANCED 
HYDROLOGIC PREDICTION SERVICE (AHPS) WEB PORTAL FOR PORTIONS OF THE 
LOWER DELAWARE RIVER. THESE INUNDATION MAPS WILL BE THE FIRST MAPS 
IMPLEMENTED IN THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION AND PROVIDE DATA FOR BOTH 
PENNSYLVANIA AND NEW JERSEY. EACH INUNDATION MAP WILL BE ASSOCIATED 
WITH A RIVER GAGE/FORECAST POINT. THE MAPPING WILL EXTEND BOTH NORTH 
AND SOUTH OF EACH GAGE.

FLOOD INUNDATION MAPS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING 
GAGES/FORECAST POINTS. THE MAPPING COVERS PORTIONS OF 25 
MUNICIPALITIES.

INUNDATION MAPS PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE SPATIAL EXTENT AND DEPTH 
OF FLOOD WATERS IN THE VICINITY OF NWS FORECAST POINTS. USERS 
WILL BE ABLE TO DISPLAY FLOOD INUNDATION MAPS FOR VARIOUS LEVELS 
RANGING FROM MINOR FLOODING THROUGH AND/OR ABOVE THE LARGEST 
OBSERVED FLOOD. 

FLOOD INUNDATION MAPS, COMBINED WITH RIVER OBSERVATIONS AND NWS 
FORECASTS, ENHANCE THE COMMUNICATION OF FLOOD RISK, PROVIDE USERS 
WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO BETTER MITIGATE THE IMPACTS OF 
FLOODING, AND BUILD MORE RESILIENT COMMUNITIES.

(SHAPEFILES) CAN BE ACCESSED THROUGH THE AHPS PORTAL (USE LOWERCASE 
LETTERS):
