Air Quality Forecasts
As a public service, the National Weather Service in Raleigh will redistribute
Air Quality Forecasts produced by the
North Carolina Division of Air Quality and the
Forsyth County Environmental Affairs Department. The Raleigh National Weather Service office
will transmit the Air Quality Forecasts as a Text
Product (AEUS72 KRAH or RDUAQIRAH) through the NOAA Weather Wire,
on our Web Site and on
NOAA Weather Radio.
The Air Quality Forecasts for the Triangle, Fayetteville, and Rocky Mount areas are
provided by the
North Carolina Division of Air Quality. Air quality forecasts for the
Triad area are provided By the
Forsyth County Environmental Affairs Department.

Understanding the AQI
The purpose of the AQI is to help you understand what local air quality means
to your health. To make it easier to understand, the AQI is divided into six categories:

Yellow |
Unusually
sensitive people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion. |

Orange |
Active
children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma,
should limit prolonged outdoor exertion. |

151 - 200 |
Red |
Active
children and adults, and people with
respiratory disease, such as asthma,
should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion;
everyone else, especially children,
should limit prolonged outdoor exertion. |

over 300 trigger health warnings of emergency conditions. The
entire population is more likely to be affected. |
