Bufkit Forecasts
Introduction
BUFKIT is a forecast profile visualization and analysis tool kit developed by the
staff at the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Buffalo and the Warning Decision
Training Branch (WDTB) in Norman, OK. BUFKIT is used in the public, private, and
educational meteorological sectors in both the US and Canada. BUFKIT is available
to anyone who is interested in the analysis of forecast hourly profiles.
What's New with Bufkit
Four new sites have been added for the
RAP and the NAM. They include Greenville NC (KPGV), Jacksonville NC (KOAJ),
Kinston NC (KISO), and Shaw AFB/Sumter SC (KSSC).
Version 10.11 of Bufkit was released late this fall and it provides some
exciting new capabilities including viewing ensemble data (including the SREF) and
time lagged ensembles.
Bufkit Software and Download Information.
NWS Raleigh has created a "BufGet" Profile which allows users to quickly and efficiently
download Bufkit data from a GUI. The "BufGet" Profile is configurable and can be edited based on your needs. The NWS Raleigh
"BufGet" Profile, noted as "R" for RAH is setup to download a handful of Bufkit profiles for central NC for the
RAP, NAM, GFS3, SREF, NMM, ARW, tRAP, tNAM, and tGFS3. You can download the NWS Raleigh
"BufGet" Profile here and learn more about "BufGet" Profiles from this
video.
