High Resolution NWP Reflectivity Comparison

Select a WRF based high resolution simulation below and then hover over the forecast hour to display the corresponding low level reflectivity forecast. The product is the 1km Reflectivity unless noted as (cr) for composite or (sfc) for surface. Click on the check box to animate. Be sure to pay attention to the model run time and forecast valid times. NCEP HiRes Window runs will be changed on May 28th, parallel NCEP HiRes Window runs available for evaluation available at links near the bottom.

References

Recent research has shown that convection allowing high resolution NWP reflectivity forecasts can be useful in the forecast process when used appropriately. The journal articles below provide some additional information on this relatively new tool for forecasters.
