On this date in weather history... In 2002, rains of 2.5 to 5 inches fell from repetitive thunderstorms in 6 to 10 hours, causing flash flooding in McDowell County. Elkorn reported 5.1 inches of rain. A record crest of 22.1 feet occurred at Welch on the Tug Fork during the evening.
