The most favored forecast is the official National Weather Service forecast for the region covered by the National Weather Forecast Office Charleston, WV. To assist with decision making, compare the official NWS forecast with the probability output from the SREF. The SREF model is made up of of 21 individual forecast models. The images for the SREF forecast blend output from the ensemble model to show areas with the highest probability occurrence. National Weather Service forecasters use output from the SREF, along with other forecast guidance to create official forecasts. In addition, NWS forecasters must take into account local terrain influences, model trends, and seasonal conditions to create a most favored forecasts.
