The KML formatted files on this page contain NDFD forecast data, LAMP guidance and RUC13 forecast model data for each NWS TAF site. In addition, selected navigation points are included with NDFD and RUC data. The files are created once per hour and contain data for a 6 or 12 hour period.

The following NDFD fields are included for airport and navigation points:
T:
Temperature from the NDFD
Td:
Dew point from the NDFD
PoP:
Precipitation index from the NDFD
PoT:
Probability of thunder as derived from the Wx NDFD field

The following LAMP fields are included for airports (TAF sites):
T:
Temperature from LAMP
Td:
Dew point from LAMP
PoP:
Probability of precipitation Index from LAMP
PoT2hr: Probability of thunderstorm in a 2 hour period
PoTCat:
Categorical thunderstorm probability as a Y/N value from LAMP

In addition, Convective Cloud Top Levels (CCT) , and upper level winds at selected Flight Levels are available from the RUC-13.

NDFD, LAMP and RUC Fields for each TAF site listed by CWSU and NDFD Graphs for OEP Airports:
ZAB ZAN ZAU ZBW ZDC ZDV ZFW
ZHU ZID ZJX ZKC ZLA ZLC ZMA
ZME ZMP ZNY ZOA ZOB ZPC ZSE
ZTL All w/Radar All wo/Radar (kml)       OEP Graphs

Icons are color coded based on the PoT value in the NDFD Forecast Data. The inner triangle represents the PoT forecast in the 0 to 3 hour period. The outer square is colored based on the PoT in the 4 to 12 hour period. If PoT is increasing the triangle will point down. If PoT is decreasing, the triangle will point up. Click on the TAF site with the left mouse button to interrogate data as a table.

Data files are produced for each NWS Central Weather Service Unit (CWSU). This information is provided as an example of just one way that CWSU forecasters can utilize NDFD, LAMP and RUC data as guidance in making a forecast for thunderstorms at a given point. The data set are best utilized with current National Mosaic Radar data available here. Other radar data sets can be obtained at the NWS Ridge Radar Page.
