The image on the left is a display from the NWS WSR-88D radar showing a multi-cell cluster of showers and thunderstorms. Each cell in the cluster is circled. Notice these storms are moving northeast, and not west to east. As a result, those areas in the path of these storms will see one storm after another, just like a train moving over a train track. These ‘training echoes’ can produce multiple inches of rain across the path of these storms resulting in flash flooding.
