THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BLACKSBURG VA HAS CONFIRMED A TORNADO NEAR LOWGAP IN SURRY COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA ON 07/26/2010.

THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN JUST NORTH OF THE INTERSECTION OF SUSAN LANE AND HIGHWAY 89 AT 938 PM. THE TORNADO TRACKED SOUTH...LIFTING JUST NORTH OF THE RAVEN KNOB BOY SCOUT CAMP AT 943 PM. THIS TRACK WAS 1.5 MILES LONG AND THE TORNADO WAS 100 YARDS WIDE.

THE DAMAGE WAS CONSISTENT WITH AN EF-0 TORNADO WITH ESTIMATED WINDS OF 80 MPH.

THE TORNADO DOWNED NUMEROUS TREES AND CAUSED MINOR ROOF DAMAGE TO TWO STRUCTURES.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BLACKSBURG WOULD LIKE TO THANK SURRY COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND THE SKULL CAMP VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR HELP IN THE DAMAGE SURVEY.
