FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR SW VA...SE WV AND NW NC
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BLACKSBURG VA
529 AM EDT MON MAR 30 2015

.DISCUSSION...
RADAR INDICATES LIGHT RAIN/SNOW ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS THIS MORNING AS A
COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE WEST. BESIDES PRODUCING A FEW HUNDREDTHS
OF WETTING PRECIPITATION...DEWPOINTS/RH VALUES ARE RISING AS THE
PRECIPITATION MOISTENS THE ATMOSPHERE. THE COLD FRONT WILL PASS ACROSS
THE AREA DURING LATE MORNING...RESULTING IN A WEST NORTHWEST WIND SHIFT.
THIS DOWNSLOPE FLOW WILL CAUSE DEWPOINTS/RH TO FALL AGAIN HEADING INTO
THE AFTERNOON...WITH CLEARING SKIES ALLOWING SUNSHINE TO ADD TO THE
HEATING. WHILE FUEL MOISTURES ARE MODESTLY RESPONDING TO THE PRECIPITATION
THIS MORNING...EXPECT FUEL MOISTURES TO DECREASE AGAIN AS DRYING TAKES PLACE
THIS AFTERNOON.

TUESDAY APPEARS TO BE MORE CRITICAL AS A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM PASSES
EASTWARD ACROSS THE SOUTHERN GREAT LAKES. SOUTHWESTERLY WIND FLOW WILL
SUPPORT EVEN WARMER TEMPERATURES...RESULTING IN RH VALUES BETWEEN 20 AND
25 PERCENT AREAWIDE. WINDS GUSTS OF 25 TO 30 MPH WILL BE COMMON ACROSS
MUCH OF THE AREA...WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS AS HIGH AS 40 MPH. THESE
CONDITIONS WILL HAVE A STRONG DRYING AFFECT ON FUELS.
